Title : Simultaneous multi-object tracking and classification

Abstract : Multi-object tracking and classification field had considerably been developed during the few last decades. A state of the art of the most important approaches is presented in [Blackman and Popoli 1999]. Overall, the field brings together three different issues, including : the objects movement adaptive estimation, measured data to known objects assignment and objects type identification. For each of these issues a set of algorithms was developed. We may mention : the algorithm GPB (Generalized Pseudo-Bayesian algorithm) and the algorithm IMM (Interacting Multiple Model), etc.. for the movement adaptive estimation. We also mention the following methods : GNN (Global Nearest Neighbour), JPDA (Joint Probabilistic Data Association) and MHT (Multi-Hypotheses Tracking), etc.. for the assignment problem. These mentioned methods and the identification problem had previously been treated in a Bayesian framework, which allowed only partial solutions due to the complexity of the problem as a whole, and the limits of the Bayesian formalism. Recently, Smets and Ristic [Smet and Ristic 2005] had succeed to significantly improve the problem of identifying a single object using the evidential formalism. This formalism is also called the belief theory or theory of Dempster-Shafer. This theory is nowadays highly coveted for its potential to bring solutions for complex systems. The objective of our works is to improve the different steps of the considered algorithm by integrating the evidential formalism.
